The Southeast Raleigh Elementary School Garden
The SERES Garden serves the students of Southeast Raleigh Elementary School. Students utilize sustainable agricultural practices to plant, grow, and harvest produce from our two gardens. In the teaching kitchen, students learn how to prepare healthy meals using fruits and vegetables grown in the gardens. Our site provides information about what is growing in the SERES Garden raised beds, garden and cooking videos from FoodCorps service members around the United States, and kid-friendly seasonal recipes. Note: During the COVID-19 epidemic, the SERES Garden is now producing food for the community. The garden has adopted a U-Pick system in which visitors can harvest at their leisure. Check out the community guidelines below. |

The Importance of School Gardens
What is FoodCorps?
The Southeast Raleigh Elementary School garden is managed by a FoodCorps Service Member.
FoodCorps is a national non-profit organization with a mission to connect kids to healthy food in school. FoodCorps is a grantee of AmeriCorps, which means that a portion of its funding comes from the federal program. FoodCorps service members commit to a full-time, eleven and a half month service term. Throughout their commitment, FoodCorps service members spend a year working with teachers and students to establish farm to school programs, incorporate nutrition education into school curricula, plant school gardens, and engage in other initiatives to improve school food. |
